Eleven Escapes the Upside Down in New 'Stranger Things' Clip
Netflix
Season two of Stranger Things is now very, very nearly with us, and as we prepare to return to Hawkins, Indiana and to the Upside Down, Netflix has a special new clip for us.

Part of this has been seen before in trailers for the upcoming second season of Stranger Things, but this long, lingering segment of footage allows us to see a crucial event take place in its entirety, allowing us a better understanding of what Eleven has been through since she disappeared in a blaze of psychic glory at the end of season one's finale.

Check out the new footage below:

This clip may seem vague, but it actually explains a lot. More recent trailers have shown off the fact that the adorable Millie Bobby Brown will be sporting a longer mess of curly hair when her character bursts back onto the scene in the Halloween following her disappearance, and her short hair in this video helps us to figure out when it fits into the timeline.

Presumably, after Eleven disappears during her climactic battle with the Demagorgon, she finds herself temporarily trapped in the Upside Down, before locating a crack between the two worlds that she's able to slip back through in order to return to our dimension.

This makes sense - Eleven wouldn't be able to survive for long in the Upside Down considering that Will Byers ended up in a pretty bad state after breathing the local air in for too long. This is to say nothing of the lack of delicious Eggos in the parallel universe.

Presumably, then, Eleven headed back to the real world soon after her fight with the Demagorgon, and made her way into the woods. Is it too much to suggest that her emerging from a wall that's stenciled with a paw print suggests that she's the beast of this story, as dangerous and unpredictable as a wild animal? That's probably trying to read too much into things.

As for where Eleven will go in the upcoming season, we do have a few clues. If Eleven has learned to use her psychic powers to manipulate portals between worlds, she could potentially use them as the Demagorgon does, slipping between worlds at will in order to avoid being spotted. She's also clearly, for some reason, decided to stay away from civilization, keeping to herself away from any other treacherous grown-ups who might be secretly in league with the Feds (looking at you, Sheriff Hopper).

The presence of this second, unguarded door between the Upside Down and the real world may also suggest that the boundaries between the two worlds are weakening, which may go some way to explaining Will Byers' visions of a red-skied Hawkins being consumed by a giant, tentacled kaiju. Eleven may well not be the only thing to find a way through one of these new tears between worlds.

This is all purely speculation, and it's not unreasonable to assume that there may be a few red herrings dotted throughout the trailers we've seen in order to mislead those who take analyzing promotional footage too seriously (no matter how much fun it might be). The good news is that there's not long to wait until we can all discover exactly what Eleven's been up to since we last saw her. It's going to be a fun ride.
