With Star Wars: The Last Jedi coming out on Blu-ray this month, it was only a matter of time before its special features started hitting the web. Spoilers for The Last Jedi below, of course.

While we recently got a small handful of details regarding deleted scenes from Rian Johnson's first Star Wars film, new footage has finally come out via official channels. A short clip shows a full deleted scene from toward the end of the movie, depicting an alternate version of Finn's duel with his former commanding officer, Captain Phasma.

It may visually rough due to being unfinished, but beyond that, it's pretty good. In the final movie, this fight scene was almost entirely unmemorable save for a love-it-or-hate-it quip from Finn (John Boyega) about being "rebel scum". And it didn't help that the scene followed the fantastic throne room battle where Rey and Kylo Ren took down the entirety of Snoke's guards

This deleted scene adds some extra and much needed pathos: after years of manipulation by Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), Finn turns the tables and subjects the silver stormtrooper to some mind games. In a call back to Phasma's very short scene in The Force Awakens, Finn reminds her that she so easily gave the Resistance the information they needed to destroy Starkiller Base.

And while Phasma brags that her soldiers will never believe such a story, it's obvious that the stormtroopers and Phasma herself know that's a lie. In a moment of nervousness, she kills her own stormtroopers to avoid a mutiny, and then recklessly rushes Finn, allowing him to gain the advantage before once again delivering his corny "rebel scum" line. Clearly, that dialogue was there from the beginning.

If nothing else, the scene gave Christie - best known for playing Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones - something interesting to do after she was criminally underused in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. It's a shame, because Christie is a strong enough actor that Captain Phasma could've been a truly menacing villain if she was actually allowed to do anything menacing.

But alas, this deleted scene was the closest we'll ever get to that. This and plenty of other materials will be included on the movie's Blu-ray when it comes out March 27, 2018, although the digital version comes out March 13.
