Meet Peter Capaldi, The 12th Doctor
Peter Capaldi is the new Doctor Who. The announcement was made as millions watched a special live presentation from the BBC on Sunday and it was an announcement that appears to be incredibly well received by the vast majority of fans. Peter Capaldi is an incredibly talented actor, who has spent many years in the industry. As we mentioned in our preview to the big reveal last week, Capaldi is probably best known for his role as Malcolm Tucker in the political satire 'The Thick Of It' and it's movie off-shoot, 'In The Loop', but his talents have certainly not been limited to his role as an angry political spin doctor.
Capaldi, a self-professed, life-long Whovian has actually dabbled in the Doctor Who universe before. In 2008 he appeared in Fires of Pompeii, playing Caecilius alongside the 10th Doctor, David Tennant. Just a year after that, Capaldi played John Forbisher in Torchwood's Children of Earth. With these exceptions, most of Capaldi's exposure has been limited to shows primarily aired in the UK. In fact, for US fans, the only other exposure most have had of Capaldi would be his role as a World Health Organization Doctor in World War Z, that's right, he a played a WHO Doctor....
So let's raise our glasses to the 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi and if you want a glimpse at his acting abilities when it comes to Sci-Fi, we strongly suggest you watch this clip from The Thick Of It (Strong language...lots of strong language.
