Whedon Will Make Ultron More Human For Avengers Sequel
Ultron is a pivotal figure in Marvel's Avengers comics and come 2015, the maniacal robot will be making his mark on Marvel's cinematic universe in Avengers: Age of Ultron. So just how does Director Joss Whedon plan to handle the character's transition from comic to big screen? The answer is simple, make him more human. In the comic world, Ultron is a fearsome villain, with mind-control, super speed and incredible intelligence among the many weapons in his arsenal, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Whedon says he wants to limit those powers and essentially humanize the character. Here's what Whedon had to say on the matter:
"He's always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's not a happy guy, which means he's an interesting guy. He's got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we'll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic and I already have someone who's a witch."
So fear not, Ultron is still going to be a robot and he will still, no doubt, have a pretty spectacular array of weapons to unleash on the Avengers, but it looks like Whedon wants to scale the guy back. It seems that with the with the introduction of the Scarlet Witch there's going to be plenty of new powers and abilities added to the film, giving Whedon a chance to explore what is driving Ultron to such a rage.
