A Perfectly On Point Animated Appeal To J.J Abrams
As a fan of Star Wars, it's sometimes very hard to describe the mixture of anxiety and excitement I have whenever the words Episode 7 are mentioned. On the one hand, it could become the perfect reimagining of the greatest science fiction universe ever created, but on the other, we could be about to witness an appalling 'Disneyfication' of that very same universe and the characters contained within it. So how does one deal with this anxiety? Well, one fan has taken an active approach and issued this fantastic animated open letter to the film's director, J.J Abrams.
Prescott Harvey is the fan in question and he, along with his team at the creative agency Sincerely Truman, spent around 5 months putting the 2 minute video together. Harvey actually worked with J.J Abrams as a Production Assistant on Mission Impossible: III, so he knows his stuff. But more so than technical knowledge, this is a video that perfectly captures the essenece of Star Wars all with 4 simple rules.
Speaking to io9.com Harvey stated that, unsurprisingly, the prequel trilogy was the root of his anxiety about the next batch of Star Wars films. "Like so many people, i've spent most of my recent years wondering why the original Star Wars trilogy was so awesome and the new movies were so terrible" said Harvey.
In an effort to prevent this from happening again, Harvey has laid out 4 rules that, if followed, he believes will result in a movie worthy of the Star Wars name. The first and overriding rule though, is that Star Wars is a frontier, which quite rightly means it is all about getting the backdrop right.
Even if you don't agree with all of Harvey's rules, you're sure to be enchanted by the animation that he uses to display them.
