Hugh Jackman To Star In Blomkamp's 'Chappie'
Sci-Fi behemoth Hugh Jackman announced over the weekend that he will be joining Elysium and District 9 Director, Neill Blomkamp's next project, Chappie. Speaking at the Zurich film festival, Jackman said "I'm doing a role in Neill's new film, called CHAPPIE, which we shoot in Johannesburg".
The announcement means that Blomkamp's 'go-to' guy, Sharlto Copley, will have another member of Hollywood royalty to star alongside, having recently spent most of this Summer's Elysium trying to rip Matt Damon's head off. However, while Copley was very much playing a supporting role in Elysium, it has long been known that it will in fact be Copley in the lead role for Blomkamp's next production. This means with Jackman playing a supporting role and Dev Patel also linked, Chappie is shaping up to be a definite one to watch ahead of its Spring 2015 release date.
Chappie is based on Blomkamp's short film, Tetra Vaal (which you can watch up top) and, according to Blomkamp, the film will be a mixture of Sci-Fi and comedy, but Blomkamp being Blomkamp, don't be surprised if there is a healthy dose of social commentary thrown into that mix.
