Major 'Star Wars: Episode 7' Casting Call Announced

An open casting call for a "major Disney movie" was sent out via the twitter account of casting agency Claire Curry yesterday, sparking rumors that this could be the hunt for the male and female leads of J.J Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII. Details of the casting calls below:

Female Call:

"SEEKING YOUNG WOMAN TO PLAY 17-18 YEAR OLD. MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, SMART AND ATHLETIC. OPEN TO ALL ETHNICITIES (INCLUDING BI AND MULTI RACIAL). MUST BE OVER 16.

RACHEL - Was quite young when she lost her parents. With no other family, she was forced to maker her way in a tough dangerous town. Now 17, she has become street smart and strong. She is able to take care of herself using her humour and guts to get by.

Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life. She is always thinking of what she can do to move ahead."

Male Call:

"SEEKING YOUNG MAN TO PLAY 19-23 YEARS OLD. MUST BE HANDSOME, SMART AND ATHLETIC. MUST BE OVER 18.

THOMAS - Has grown up without a father's influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn't have the strongest sense of himself, despite this he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities in life and understands you can't take life too seriously."

Don't pay too much attention to the seemingly ridiculous claims for "Beautiful", "Handsome" and "Smart", I get the feeling these are not going to be game breakers, or at least they shouldn't be. After all, J.J Abrams has already stated that he wants to take Star Wars to a grittier place, but then again, J.J. Abrams was the one who shoehorned that 3 second shot of Alice Eve in her skimpies into Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Aesthetics aside, could it be that these two characters are the new generation of Star Wars heroes? Are they potential Jedi or are they more of the streetwise Han Solo ilk? You might be tempted to believe the latter based on the backgrounds given in the casting call, but don't be surprised if this is just a bit of misdirection by Abrams and co.

If you are in the UK, or able to get there, casting is taking place in various locations across the country, starting with Bristol on the 9th and 10th November and ending in Dublin on 23rd and 24th November. Full details can be found at Claire Curry's Twitter page. May the force be with you, but only if you are smart, handsome or beautiful...
