First Trailer Released For Wachowski Space Opera 'Jupiter Ascending'
Wow. The Wachowski's sure know how to make a beautiful sci-fi movie don't they? The first trailer for Andy and Lana Wachowski's upcoming space opera 'Jupiter Ascending' has just hit the internet and it has instantly worked its way onto the 'Most exciting movies of 2014 list'.
Starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, Jupiter Ascending showcases a future space-faring world where humans find themselves at the bottom of the galactic food chain. Russian immigrant Jupiter Jones (Kunis) may be a lowly human bottom feeder, but her genetics have attracted the attentions of the all powerful Queen of the Universe who will stop at nothing to end her existence.
It's an intriguing basis for a story which, judging from the trailer, will be a visual feast with its intergalactic back drop. And that is exactly what you would expect from a Wachowski story, because after all, before Jupiter Ascending this is a family that gave us The Matrix, Speed Racer, and Cloud Atlas. While the latter pair of maybe didn't excite as much as they should, there's no doubting the beauty of what was portrayed on screen.
The story itself has more than a hint of 'Fifth Element' about it, with Channing Tatum playing a lowly janitor thrust into a battle to the beautiful girl with the big destingy. But despite these familiar themes, the Wachowski's promise that Jupiter Ascending will be a film like no other and luckily for all of us, this first trailer has done nothing to disparage these remarks. Seriously, this trailer has everything. Views of a future Earth? Check. Crazy future tech? Check. Space travel on an epic scale? Check. It's time to start getting excited about Jupiter Ascending.
Jupiter Ascending will hit theaters on July 25th 2014.
