Trailer - Get Your First Look At Godzilla
The movie reboot that nobody asked for just moved one step closer with the release of the first trailer for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. Facetiousness aside, there is actually a great deal of anticipation for the big screen return of everyone's favorite giant monster and with stars like Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen being directed by the man who gave us the excellent 2010 movie 'Monsters', there is also a great deal of optimism.
This first trailer is however, a little bit controversial in that it reveals the titular monster to audiences before they even pay for their tickets. This is the opposite strategy to the 1998 Godzilla movie, which was quite frankly awful, so could it be that Warner Bros. are learning from the mistakes of Fox? The studio will no doubt have sights set on a better box office performance than the 1998 outing, which despite being directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Matthew Broderick, only raked in $379m off of a $125m budget.
The success of this latest reboot will come down to how much desire audiences have for another monster movie. Pacific Rim was remarkably popular with sci-fi fans, but it failed to capture the wider domestic audience and while Godzilla is more of a recognized brand, it is hard to see it outperforming Guillermo del Toro's smash-fest.
Godzilla hits theaters on May 16th 2014 and stars Bryan Cranston alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
