First Trailer Released For 'Edge Of Tomorrow' Starring Tom Cruise
I've been waiting for this for quite some time now, but the first trailer for Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow is finally here. Starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, Edge of Tomorrow is the big screen adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's excellent alien invasion book, All You Need Is Kill and it promises to be total madness.
Cruise plays a Lt. Col. Bill Cage, one of many soldiers fighting in a battle against a seemingly immovable force of alien invaders. When a strange time-loop forces Cage to relive the same gory day of battle over and over, he finds himself teaming up with the legendary Rita Vrtaski in a partnership that could swing the war and save the planet.
Yes, the premise is brilliant, but will the adaptation do Sakurazaka's work justice? Well, looking at the trailer it certainly seems to have captured the essence. Chaotic battlefields in which humans must wear powered exosuits to match their alien counterparts, Rita Vrtaski's battle axe and of course, disorientating time-loops, they're all here.
Of course, there are a few things fans of the book will want to nit pick at, but this was never going to be a direct adaptation with the focus being shifted away from the Japanese characters in the book. But, on the whole this looks like an absolute thrill ride and should erase the sour taste left in Tom Cruise fans' mouths by Oblivion.
Edge of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 6th 2014.
