Spider-Man Spin-Off Movies Announced For Venom and Sinister Six
Marvel has taken their next steps in cinematic domination with the announcement that two Spider-Man spin-off movies will be produced, featuring some of the franchise's most interesting villains. Venom and the Sinister Six will both be getting their own stand alone movies according to an official release from Sony, who confirmed that the team behind 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' will pen the scripts for this latest expansion of the Spider-Man universe.
Sony are expected to lead with Venom who, despite the abomination that was Spider-Man 3 is massively popular with fans of the franchise. It's unknown which iteration of the 'spidey gone wrong' will feature in the movie and Topher Grace will no doubt have fans nervous, but with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman at the helm, we should expect a far more sympathetic and entertaining take on this, a classic Marvel villain.
Up next will be the Supervillain collective, The Sinister Six of which there will be many questions. This is a band of villains that has taken on many forms over the years, but looking at who pops up in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it would be safe to assume that Doctor Octopus, Electro, Rhino and the Green Goblin will make up the bulk of these evil doers. Options for the last two places are numerous. Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman and Vulture are all potentials and Sony will want to be careful as to who they pick.
These two movies confirm the rumors that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be used as a jumping point for an expansion of the Spider-Man universe. Such rumors came about in no small part to the unusually large number of villains Spidey will be facing in next years outing and the internet is already suggesting that The Sinister Six movie could see Spider-Man unite with other fringe heroes to deal with the threat. But is all of this a step too far for a treasured comic-book franchise? Every time one of these announcements is made I find myself asking when will the comic-book adaptation bubble burst? Is this when it finally happens?
While the Venom and Sinister Six movies do not currently have a release date, the press release from Columbia Pictures does state that either The Amazing Spider-Man 4 or or one of the spin-off movies will be released on May 4th 2018. You can read the full release from Sony at the link below:
