Does Marvel Want Johnny Depp To Play Dr. Strange?
As we all know, Marvel are busy planning their third phase of movies and while the likes of 'Ant Man' have been confirmed, there is still a lot of debate as to which characters will score their own origin movies. Dr. Strange is one character being touted to get his own movie and Latino Review claims that, not only is a Dr. Strange movie going ahead, but Marvel know who they want to play him. That man is the one and only Johnny Depp....
Of course, Depp has strong links to Marvel owners Disney having starred in Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland and....um, Lone Ranger. But here's Latino Review's spin on things:
"A well-connected source informed me tonight that Johnny Depp has taken a meeting with Marvel to discuss taking on the role of Dr. Strange. The 50 year-old actor is a comic book fan, and is said to be very interested in jumping onto the Marvel machine."
LR continue to suggest that the appointment of Depp would result in some script tweaks as Marvel initially intended to feature a 30 year old Dr. Strange ahead of a 2016 release. But would a Johnny Depp Dr. Strange movie satisfy fans? Sure enough he is one of the biggest, most charismatic stars in the business and he certainly possesses all the hallmarks of a superhero as charismatic as Marvel's doctor. But early reaction from fans has been incredibly negative, thanks in no small part to the bad taste left in their mouths from last year's Lone Ranger movie. But is this reason enough to write off Depp? Absolutely not.
For those not familiar with Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, he is the charismatic neurosurgeon turned sorcerer who often featured in Marvel Comic's more whacky storylines. Eventually Strange came into contact with the Avengers, which would suggest that an appearance in the 3rd Avengers movie would not be out of the question should his origin story get the green light.
Latino Review may often be accurate with their predictions, but they are the epitome of a well oiled rumor mill, so as always one should take this with a pinch of salt.
