New Villain Cast For Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Joss Whedon and the team behind Avengers: Age of Ultron have reportedly cast the second villain in the upcoming sequel to Marvel's Avengers. Variety states that Thomas Kretschmann has been signed to play the role of Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, a former Nazi officer who heads up the terrorist organization HYDRA.
The introduction of the Baron means that Ultron won't be the only villain taking on the new, expanded Avengers cast and it could mean that Avengers: Age of Ultron serves as our first introduction to the infamous HYDRA organization. Some are reporting that the Baron and HYDRA will be the main antagonists for Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D leader, Nick Fury. Indeed, this announcement will surely lead to a flurry of plot rumours, not just for Avengers: Age of Ultron but for a host of potential phase 3 movies as well. S.H.I.E.L.D and HYDRA have had many tussles in the Marvel comics, so fans will no doubt be excited to see these brought to life on the big screen.
This will arguably be Thomas Kretcschmann's biggest role with the German actor's previous credits being largely limited to TV including NBC's Dracula. As the news leaks out, some are suggesting that Kretschmann has signed on for a multi-movie deal, which suggests that the Baron is here to stay, popping up to cause S.H.I.E.L.D problems across the board.
