The Astronaut Wives Club Gets TV Adaptation
ABC have ordered a 10 series adaptation of Lily Koppel's popular novel 'The Astronaut Wives Club'. According to Deadline, the show will premiere this Summer and has been scripted by Gossip Girl's Stephanie Savage.
Set in 1969, the show will follow the wives of the Mercury astronauts who became media darlings following their husband's daring missions with NASA. Unfortunately for space junkies, this will be more of an emotional drama than an in-depth look at NASA's early space-faring exploits, but the story of the Mercury 7 wives is nonetheless and interesting one.
Hailed as the America's first astronauts, the Mercury 7 captured the imagination of a nation, but while these brave men were breaking new ground their wives were also making headlines. The 7 women soon became famous in their own right, being entertained by the Kennedys and having every inch of their lives scrutinized by the press. But marriage to a man who is putting his life on the line every day is not an easy thing and the women often found solace in each other's company.
Astronaut Wives Club promises to have all the 60's nostalgia you can handle with a backdrop of NASA's golden age in the space race.
