Marvel To Pit Captain America 3 Against Batman Vs Superman?
May 6th 2016 is a date etched into the minds of many sci-fi and comic book fans. Not least because it's the date that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. recently plumped for as the release slot for Batman vs Superman, but also because it's a date that Marvel had already publicly pencilled in for one of their big phase 3 movies. Now, just hours after Marvel confirmed they would still be going head to head with DC May 6th, THR believe they have figured out which movie will be pitted against what will arguably be the most important movie in DC's cinematic history.
"The mystery has been solved - the untitled Marvel Studios tentpole that Warner Bros. 'Batman vs Superman' movie will go up against on May 6, 2016 is Captain America 3, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter."
So, if THR's sources are to be believed, Steve Rogers and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be pushed into a showdown with Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor on May 6th 2016. While I am sure a lot will depend on the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it's hard to imagine Warner Bros. and DC quaking in their boots at this prospect. As much as I enjoyed Captain America, and as great as Winter Soldier looks (and I still think it will make a killing when it opens next month), it's hard to imagine the 3rd movie putting up too much of a challenge to the first big-screen duel between Superman and Batman.
However, THR state that many observer's believe there is still only a very slim chance that the two comic book giants will actually go head to head with each other on the same weekend. With a handful of prime release slots still up for grabs in 2016's blockbuster season, meaning it will most likely be a case of who blinks first. So will Snyder et al. risk more fan fury by pushing the release date of Batman vs Superman back even further or will Marvel seek to give Captain America 3 its best possible shot at success?
