Trailer For David Michôd's 'The Rover' Is Post-Apocalyptic Earth At Its Depressing Best
David Michôd's The Rover is going to be one of those films that makes you happy you live in an age of human comforts. The post-apocalyptic drama starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson is set '10 years after the collapse of society', and follows Eric (Pearce) a man who has lost just about everything he owns. When a gang of thugs take off with Eric's last prized possession, he sets off on a chaotic journey to exact his revenge and get back what is rightfully his. But Eric doesn't travel alone, instead he recruits an injured gang member (Pattinson) to guide him on his journey.
Michôd won praise for his brutal 2010 picture, Animal Kingdom, and if the footage in this latest trailer is anything to go by, The Rover looks set to be equally bleak. Much of that tone is set by the dusty Australian landscape, which lends itself well to telling stories of societal collapse. That being said, Michôd certainly appears to have reaped the most from both the landscape and the cast he has placed on it, and it looks as though The Rover is going to be one of the most thought-provoking movies of the summer.
The Rover hits select theaters on June 13th 2014.
