ABC Double Up On Marvel Next Season With Agent Carter And New Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D
ABC have finally publicly acknowledged that they will be bringing Marvel's Agent Carter to our TV's in what was probably the least surprising round of show signings of the year so far. It had already been well documented that Agent Carter was in development at ABC, but the network had refused to confirm it. It means that ABC will be doubling up on Marvel drama next season as the announcement of an Agent Carter show was accompanied by the equally unsurprising confirmation that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been renewed for a second season.
Hayley Atwell who played agent Peggy Carter in Marvel's Captain America movies will reprise her role for the all new show. Here's the official blurb:
"Marvel's Agent Carter, starring Captain America's Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the lover of her life - Steve Rogers."
The Captain America writing team of Steve McFeeley and Christopher Marcus will executive produce the show along with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D executive producer Jeph Loeb, Tara Butters and Michael Fazekas.
Exploring post-war America will be a nice change of pace from the modern day Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Marvel team will no doubt have learned a few lessons from the the rocky road travelled by this season's S.H.I.E.L.D. debut. Hayley Atwell will bring some serious class to the show and if they can take advantage of the historical backdrop, this has every chance of becoming a thrilling period spy thriller.
After a slowish start, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has developed into a thoroughly entertaining show since the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and it looks likely that the studio will continue to use the show as a cross-promotional tool for the wider cinematic universe. The season finale airs next week, and you can bet your kittens that with a second season on the horizon, there's going to be a huge cliffhanger for fans to look forward to.
All in all, things are looking pretty peachy for Marvel fans right now.
