CTV Investigates Vancouver as a Hotspot for UFO Activity
A special investigative report from Canada's CTV news claimed that Vancouver has a disproportionate number of UFO sightings. In fact, according to the report, there are more UFO sightings in Vancouver than anywhere else in Canada.
The CTV report covered the conclusions drawn by a recent study from the independent 'Canadian UFO Survey'. The overview of the survey explains, "Since 1989, Ufology Research has solicited UFO case data from known and active investigators and researchers in Canada." The goal of this survey was, in their own words, "to provide data for use by researchers trying to understand this controversial phenomenon."
After compiling data from numerous sources, they found that there were a whopping 116 reported sightings in Vancouver in 2013. They also found that UFO activity was concentrated in Ontario, with 40% of the sightings taking place in the region in 2013, and that 2012 was something of a banner year for sightings; the number of reported sightings was the highest it had been in 25 years. Approximately 14% of UFO sightings in Canada in 2013 were classified as "unexplained."
Canadian UFO Survey is a group led by science writer Chris Rutkowski that investigates and compiles case data about UFO sightings and abductions. They do not publish a journal or newsletter, but irregularly publish a hardcopy ufozine. Rutkowski told CTV that the prominence of UFOs in Canada warrants further research.
"Are we looking at real phenomenon?" asks Rutkowski. "Is there a psychological phenomenon accounting for all this? Why do people persist in seeing something that supposedly shouldn't be there?"
Of course, it's important to remember that the majority of UFO sightings reports are easily explained, but quite why Vancouver has become such a UFO hotspot is still a remarkably interesting question.
