Charlie Cox Starring in Daredevil Netflix Series
Netflix announced today that Charlie Cox will be starring as Matt Murdoc— the Daredevil himself— in Netflix and Marvel's upcoming TV series, Daredevil! The actor is known for the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire," in which he plays Owen Sleater, and the 2007 film "Stardust," in which he co-starred with Claire Danes.
The character was previously portrayed by Ben Affleck in the almost unanimously derided 2003 version. Ben Affleck's performance was badly received to the point that there was a virtual uproar over his casting as Batman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film, "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice."
Other, more high-profile actors had been rumored for the part, such as Michael C. Hall of "Dexter" fame. While Hall is an acclaimed actor with experience playing a troubled vigilante, many fans are relieved that a lesser-known actor will play the part and have the opportunity to make it his own.
"Daredevil" is the first of four Netflix-Marvel partnerships; after the release of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, the four heroes will band together for a miniseries called "The Defenders."
