Ethan Cohen and Ivan Reitman Working Closely On Ghostbusters 3 Script
Some interesting tidbits regarding the much-rumored Ghostbusters 3 movie to tell you about today. It's been regularly rumored that Ivan Reitman will begin production of the sequel by the end of the year (or early 2015 depending on who you listen to), but as of yet there have been few plot details revealed. However, in a recent article in Vanity Fair the stars of the first two installments shared their thoughts on the direction it may take.
Sigourney Weaver revealed that she recently gave her two cents to Reitman regarding the direction of the movie.
"I said, I have one condition. I want my son Oscar [from Ghostbusters 2] to be a Ghostbuster, and he said 'We've already done that'."
While Weaver's wish appears to have been granted, it remains to be seen if the musings of fellow cast members Rick Moranis (Louis Tully) and Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) will come to fruition in the movie. Moranis recently suggested that his character would currently be bunking up with Bernie Madoff in prison, while Hudson envisages Winston as the hands-on CEO of the Ghostbusters organization who hopefully will "still be able to wear the backpacks."
These quotes may just be a bit of fun, but it's still incredibly exciting to think that work is actually underway on what is rapidly becoming one of the most anticipated sequels around. That work has largely been carried out by Reitman and his co-writer Ethan Cohen. Cohen told Vanity Fair that he and Reitman had been "together for hours every week, working on it really closely."
Many fans were understandably disappointed when Bill Murray stated he wouldn't be reprising his role as Peter Venkman in the sequel, but Cohen remains confident in the product he and Reitman are putting together. Much of that confidence comes from the fact that Dan Aykroyd has been serving as a supervising writer to the two Hollywood greats. So if it's good enough for Aykroyd, Cohen and Reitman, i'm pretty sure it's going to be good enough for me.
Ghostbusters is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its release this year, and as part of these festivities the sci-fi classic will be the subject special screenings across the US this Labor Day weekend. Following that up will be new Blu Ray releases for both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, which incidentally is celebrating 25 years of release this year.
