Expect Dwayne Johnson To Announce Role As DC Comics' Shazam At Comic Con
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has confirmed that he will be entering the DC Comics franchise as a major movie character, telling fans that an official announcement can be expected very soon. That "very soon" can only mean one thing....the announcement will be made at this week's San Diego Comic Con.
Johnson teased the announcement during an interview with Total Film and there is one quote in particular that will confirm what most DC fans had expected for a long time.
"I will say this. There's a character out there that we're going to announce very soon that I'm going to play, and I'll just say this: This character has the power of Superman, he can throw down. Just say the word. That's all I'm going to say."
Just say the word? Ok...SHAZAM! Yes, it would now seem that we can all start getting excited about Captain Marvel aka Shazam coming to the big screen, and with Dwayne Johnson playing him, such a prospect is nothing short of mouth-watering.
The possibilities for Johnson's Shazam are many. There is a solid chance that he may at least start out as some form of antagonist in the DC Universe because, while he may ultimately be a good guy at heart, he's had dust-ups with Superman in the past and the idea of another big-hitting showdown between the Man of Steel and someone who can match his strength is something DC and Warner Bros. would surely love to explore.
The Warner Bros. Comic Con panel is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, so if we've not had the announcement by then...I will eat my hat.
