So says the trailer of the upcoming sci-fi BBC series, Intruders, based on the 2007 novel of almost the same name by Michael Marshall Smith. It follows a secret society of people who achieve immortality by stealing the bodies of others. As they succinctly put it, "We do die, but we can return." And then the obligatory creepy little girl bids them an eerie "Welcome back." Most disturbingly, the original occupants of the body often try to fight off the intruders, a process that often takes years. Although much of the trailer remains vague, the show appears to be very dark and unsettling, as well as thoughtful about the consequences of violating the laws of nature.

The Intruders stars John Simm and Mira Sorvino, and is written by The X-Files writer and executive producer Glen Morgan. The series will premiere on BBC America on August 23 at 9 pm EST.
