Details of Gwendoline Christie's Role in Star Wars: Episode VII Revealed?
Slightly spoiler-y rumors follow! (Plus: which Star Trek alum reportedly almost played Gwendoline Christie's role?)
The Game of Thrones actress is rumored to play a villainous Imperial Officer in the upcoming J.J. Abrams-helmed Star Wars: Episode VII, according to rumor king Badass Digest. Supposedly, she is some kind of bounty hunter who is tracking down a deserter Stormtrooper, rumored to be played by John Boyega. Reports have also been released that Christie was seen training with a lightsaber, which has sparked rumors that her character may also be a Sith or Dark Jedi.
Badass Digest also reports that Christie's role may have originally been written for a man. Benedict Cumberbatch was supposedly in talks to play her role, but then it was rewritten to be female, possibly as a result of the widespread consternation about the lack of female roles in the first big round of casting for the film. Looks like Star Wars is taking a page out of Marvel's playbook in the best possible way.
