San Diego Comic Con Round-Up - Thursday July 24th 2014
< >

San Diego Comic Con kicked off in earnest yesterday, and it's safe to say that if Thursday's events are a benchmark for the rest of the weekend, this could be the busiest Comic Con yet. With panels being held by some of the biggest players in the industry, the lines were long, but those who managed to gain precious entry were treated to surprise appearances and a host of exciting announcements. Here are the biggest headlines you might have missed.

Christopher Nolan and Interstellar Cast Make a Surprise Appearance

Fans at the Paramount Studios panel were left bewildered when their Q&A with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles star Megan Fox was cut short. Heck, even Fox herself was confused as to why fans couldn't have more time to ask questions. Later, though, all became apparent when Christopher Nolan and some of the stars of his upcoming space epic, Interstellar, walked onto the stage to a rapturous and surprised applause. Nolan was joined by Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway as a new trailer for the November release was aired.

The cast of Firefly are getting back together!

Unfortunately, it's not for a new series, but the full cast of Firefly will be reuniting to voice the new Firefly Online game. Though this is clearly a major coup for the team behind the game, it does mean that the scrutiny over the production will be increasingly severe as Browncoat fans look to take absolutely anything they can get in the absence of a new season.

New Star Wars Rebels Trailers

The Star Wars Rebels panel yesterday, fans were treated to a host of new footage from the upcoming show. With these latest trailers, what started out as the focal point of fan rage at the lack of more Clone Wars episodes has now become a legitimately exciting prospect. Star Wars Rebels airs on Disney XD in October and whether you like it or not, it's canon, so you're going to want to watch it.

First look at Thanos (Kind of)

One of the most exciting (but still potentially underwhelming) images to emerge yesterday was this shot from Guardians of the Galaxy of Thanos sitting on his throne. Is that a bit of shoulder we see?
