J.R Rodriguez Cast As Wildcat In Season 3 of Arrow
Wildcat (Ted Grant), an expert fighter who was magically granted nine lives, is a significant character in the DC universe. He's a world-class boxer, who at different points trained Batman, Superman, and Black Canary. The latter is the most important in context, as Arrow showrunners have recently announced that Laurel will take significant steps to taking up the mantle of Black Canary in the upcoming season. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently stated regarding Laurel's character arc in the third season: "There will be some interactions with a new character that we haven't announced yet…. Her fans will be really, really happy." Guggenheim then announced that the character would appear at Comic Con this past weekend, but did not reveal casting news until now. The news that this character would appear, in conjunction with the statements from Guggenheim, has led to speculation that Wildcat will train Laurel in the art of fighting.
The television version of Wildcat will be a former boxer who runs a gym for underprivileged children. He will be played by relative unknown J.R. Ramirez, who recently finished a stint on Emily Owens, M.D. So far, the character is planned to be recurring, but not a regular. He is the second character from DC comics to be added to the roster for this season, along with supervillain Ra's al Ghul.
