Marvel Has Plans for Superheroine Squirrel Girl?
Will Squirrel Girl get her own movie or TV show? Or will she just appear in one of the Marvel films or series that are already in the works? Either way, it seems that Marvel has plans for her, as they recently registered a trademark on the superheroine, which they generally can only be bothered to do if they are trying to protect an upcoming film, television show, or video game.
Squirrel Girl, or Doreen Green, was a member of the Great Lakes Avengers, and has the ability to control squirrels. Which doesn't sound like a particularly great superpower, but it's surprisingly formidable, considering that she (and her squirrels, I suppose) have personally defeated some of Marvel's most powerful supervillains, including Doctor Doom, Thanos, Bi-Beast, Deadpool, and onetime lover Wolverine. Her ability to defeat villains that are generally considered to be more powerful is so prolific, it has become a running joke in the Marvel canon. Her victories are usually obtained through creative use of her powers or her opponents' arrogance.
Most recently, she was nannying for the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, which has lead to speculation that she will most likely appear in one of the Defenders Netflix series. That being said, she also defeated Thanos, who appears in Guardians of the Galaxy and is expected to be a major villain in both Avengers sequels. Knowing Joss Whedon's goofy sense of humor, we wouldn't be at all surprised if squirrels played a part in Thanos's ultimate downfall.
