Rumor Mongering: Will Battlestar's Katee Sackhoff Play a Marvel Superhero?
With the announcement of the female Thor, Marvel is finally beginning to answer fans' clamoring for more female representation in the superhero genre. And although Kevin Feige still won't officially confirm the Black Widow solo film, Marvel fans are getting their hopes up that Battlestar Galactica's tough-as-nails heroine Katee Sackhoff will play a Marvel superhero as a result of some mysterious tweets.
First, she revealed that she had a meeting with former Marvel president and chairman Stan Lee:
Then, she started a new acting job and sent out three tantalizing clues as to her "super secret" role:
Of course, speculation has already run amok that Sackhoff will play Ms. Marvel, as she has expressed interest in the character in the past, or even a female iteration of Daredevil, in light of the red material in the second picture. io9 hypothesized that she might play a female version of X-Man Beak, since the first picture shows her getting fitted for a mask that covers everything but a large hole at the mouth.
Is any of this true? We certainly hope so, especially considering the pitiful statistics regarding strong female characters in Hollywood films (forget strong characters, only 30% of any speaking roles in the top 100 movies of 2013 were female). Happily, we know for a fact that Sackhoff has some exciting new role, but the Marvel speculation may be premature, as Sciencefiction.com rightly pointed out that Stan Lee is no longer involved in Marvel's day-to-day business.
