District 13 Is a Bleak, Colorless Wasteland in New Hunger Games: Mockingjay Posters

We saw a sneak preview of District 13's rebellion in a teaser, but now we get to see the destitute ruins up close in new character posters for the upcoming Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 1.

The desolation of the district is indicated by showing it entirely in shades of gray; even Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), who is usually dressed like a cross between Cirque du Soleil and Lady Gaga, is dressed in muted colors.

The late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman also gets a character poster for his last film role as President Plutarch, the head of the Hunger Games who was revealed in Catching Fire (spoiler!) to secretly be in cahoots with the resistance. Also pictured are Julianne Moore as President Coin, leader of District 13, Sam Claflin as fan favorite Finnick Odair, a former Career Tribute who joins the rebellion against the Capitol, Woody Harrelson as Katniss's mentor, Haymitch, and Jeffrey Wright as Beetee, a technology-savvy fellow tribute who creates new weapons for the District 13 rebels, including a new bow and arrow for Katniss.

Little is known about District 13 from the films thus far, but in the novels, it is a district that was believed to have been completely destroyed by nuclear weapons and rendered uninhabitable during the original rebellion. In Mockingjay (spoiler!) Katniss discovers that the residents moved underground in a non-aggression agreement with the Capitol. It is also being used as the base for the second rebellion, which is central to the plot of the last installment of the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins and the two upcoming films based on the novel. Lionsgate recently unveiled an interactive website that gives clues about the mysterious resistance base.

The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Michelle Forbes, Natalie Dormer, and Gwendoline Christie. Part 1 will open on November 21 of this year and Part 2 will open almost exactly a year later on November 20, 2015.
