Marvel Moving Forward With Inhumans Movie, May Star Vin Diesel
There have been so many rumors flying around about a possible Inhumans movie, we're almost loathe to believe it. But sources say that Marvel has officially approved a script and will be moving forward with production of the adaptation of the beloved comic, which will possibly be helmed by Guardians of the Galaxy star Vin Diesel.
The film has been rumored to be in development since 2011, but has never officially been confirmed. Now, Collider reports that studio insiders have revealed the approval of a finished script by Joe Robert Cole, and that Marvel will begin sending the script to filmmakers shortly. Cole is a member of Marvel's writing program, much like Nicole Perlman, who wrote the first draft of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Before this news officially came out, Vin Diesel might have already let the cat out of the bag. He hinted on his Facebook page that he would be part of an Inhumans movie:
The caption reads: "Vin and Marvel… you all made it happen! I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I'm Inhuman… Haha." The capitalization of "Inhuman," in particular, gave rise to a flurry of hopeful rumors. Many speculate that he will play Black Bolt, a superhuman who is portrayed as somewhat humongous whose booming voice has the power to level a city. Fans say that Diesel, particularly his physicality, would be a perfect fit with the role.
The actor started teasing that he would be playing a Marvel character besides Groot as early as last year. In an interview with Comicbook.com, he said, "When I first got the call from Kevin Feige, he prefaced the call by saying 'This is the strangest character Marvel has ever attempted.' He said 'Don't answer me now, but instead of making the fans wait until 2017, there's something that would be a brilliant idea, we think you could be the only person who could bring the emotion to this very challenging task.'" So if there is going to be an Inhumans film, then we may be able to count on a 2017 release.
The Inhumans are a race of superhumans who were created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, and who have appeared in various Marvel comics over the years. Black Bolt is a member of the Inhuman Royal Family, which was a dedicated comic book series. They are the result of genetic experiments on humans conducted by the Kree, who wanted to create a race of supersoldiers that would slavishly help them in their war against the Skrulls. But then the Kree abandoned their experiments because their mutants turned against them, as they often do, and a prophecy warned them that one of the Inhumans would someday destroy the Kree Supreme Intelligence. Their existence was a secret in the Marvel Universe at one point, but was gradually revealed. Black Bolt is the king of the Inhumans, and rules the race along with his family, some of whom have been part of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
