New Spider-Woman Comic Series Places the Emphasis on Woman
< >

The original spiderwoman, created in 1978 by Stan Lee, was strong, fast, immune to poisons, and multi lingual. In short, she was awesome.

But, Marvel's newest Spider-Woman series spends more time focusing on her physical assets.

And the alternate cover showcases yet another side of the superhero - her butt.

The alternate cover displays Jessica in a pose that is incredibly submissive - a word that should not be associated with a strong, powerful superhero. Even though Marvel has taken several steps towards gender equality - the latest being a female Thor - they seem to have undone all this hard work by hiring porn artist Milo Manara.

Manara's cover is almost a direct copy of a scene he drew in his Italian erotic comic, although Spiderwoman does have a few more clothes on.

Marvel declined to comment on the issue. But if their intention was to draw in more female viewers, perhaps a cover like this would have been more in order.
