While in the first film, Renner's character was mostly a patsy for the villains, he told fans at San Diego Comic Con that his role will be expanded in the sequel: "I think we're going to actually get a handful of [Barton's] personality on this one, which is actually quite fun for me to sort of explore in this one... [fans will] understand who he is, what he is, how he does what he does, and he's got another bag of secrets too that are revealed."
The photo also features Hawkeye's new costume, which was revealed last month and plays a fairly significant role in the plot of the film. In Age of Ultron, Tony Stark takes the lead and provides all of the Avengers with new equipment and uniforms. As part of his effort to make life easier for the superhero team, he also creates Ultron, a self-aware artificial intelligence who is intended to assess threats against humanity. But, as a twist, he decides that the greatest threat is, in fact, humanity, and that we should be wiped off the face of the Earth.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1, 2015.
