Upcoming Thriller Generation Z Features Zombie Rights Activists
Between popcorn action movies like World War Z, gritty television like The Walking Dead, and zom-coms like Warm Bodies or Life After Beth, it seems like zombies have been done to death lately (no pun intended). But the upcoming Generation Z, despite its somewhat generic name, seems to have a new spin on the zombie apocalypse genre. Namely: humans are winning.
Generation Z, which started filming today, takes place in a futuristic society in which the zombie apocalypse is underway, but humans are winning the war. We're doing so well, in fact, that the main characters take a vacation at a resort that is populated with zombies for humans to kill for fun under controlled circumstances. Zombie rights activists take action against this resort, in such a way that zombies may regain the upper hand.
This will either be the best or worst movie for bleeding hearts, but at the very least the concept is interesting. Probably in anticipation of zombie over-saturation complaints, Melanie Walls of Matador Pictures made sure to characterize the film as "highly original" as well as "disturbing."
Dougray Scott (My Week with Marilyn, Hemlock Grove) will play the main zombie rights activist, and the film will be directed by Steve Barker, who previously directed the Nazi zombie film Outpost.
