Dwayne Johnson Will Play DC Comics Villain Black Adam in Shazam
Rumors have been swirling around Dwayne Johnson ("The Rock") playing either the hero or villain in the upcoming Shazam film, and now Johnson himself has confirmed via Twitter that he will play the DC comics villain, Black Adam.
Black Adam serves as the primary antagonist to Shazam in the comics, and was once voted by IGN as the 16th greatest comic book villain of all time. He was originally written as an ancient Egyptian prince whom Shazam chose as his successor based on his "moral purity." He then attempts to take over the world, as villains do. Then, when the character was resurrected many years later, he was written as a reformed anti-hero who occasionally loses control to his murderous bodily host, Theo-Adam.
Yesterday, Warner Bros. registered domain names for several DC comics characters, including Shazam. Although there had been many rumors about the production of the film and Johnson's casting, these two pieces of news are the first confirmations that the movie is going forward.
