EP Simon Kinberg Teases That Star Wars Rebels May Introduce Characters For Episode VII
Could Disney's upcoming animated show, Star Wars Rebels contain easter eggs that tease themes from J.J Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII? In a recent chat with EW Rebels EP Simon Kinberg said that creators of the animated show are working closely with the team behind Abrams' 2015 movie.
"It's a very integrated process, there's real communication between all the filmmakers because we're all part of a larger timeline," said Kinberg. "There is absolutely communication and integration between the different stories. We are very aware of what they're doing in VII, and we also have to click into place with Episode IV."
Indeed, Kinberg is also serving as a creative consultant for Episode VII, and Disney has made no secret of wanting to create a new, tighter Star Wars canon. Rebels will be our first on screen look at said canon, so it's only natural to expect that teasers for the new cinematic trilogy will be forthcoming when it airs next month.
It was rumored a few weeks ago that Episode VII's big bad would be closely linked to the villainous Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels, and although that link is now being refuted by many commentators, Kinberg himself has now teased the potential links between Rebels and the future cinematic saga, saying "There are characters, vehicles, imagery that are introduced in the show before we've ever seen them in the movies, possibly including VII,"
Will you be tuning into Rebels when it debuts on the Disney Channel October 3rd?
