Doctor Who's Matt Smith Cast in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Matt Smith, otherwise known as the Eleventh Doctor, has been cast in the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The film will be directed by
The project was in development hell for years before finally coming to fruition, originally casting Natalie Portman as protagonist Elizabeth Bennett, who will now be played by Lily James. The cast also includes Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and Douglas Booth. Smith will play Mr. Collins, an arrogant and vain rector who serves as comedic relief, as well as a foil for the ever-serious Mr. Darcy, and would-be suitor for Elizabeth Bennett.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a parody novel that slightly alters Austen's classic novel to include a zombie apocalypse narrative. It mashes up Austen's language with Grahame-Smith's, with approximately 85% of the language lifted directly from the original novel. Austen is credited as a co-author.
Matt Smith played the Doctor for four years before recently being replaced by Peter Capaldi. At the time of his casting, he was the youngest actor to play the Time Lord, and is still the only Doctor to have been nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actor. He will also appear in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, Lost River, and the upcoming Terminator: Genisys, as well as its two sequels.
The film is expected to be released sometime in 2015.
