Natalie Dormer to Star in Zombie Pandemic Thriller Patient Zero
Game of Thrones and Hunger Games star Natalie Dormer has officially been confirmed to lead the upcoming pandemic horror movie Patient Zero, which will be directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky.
Patient Zero, like the classic 28 Days Later, is a zombie film that doesn't technically have any zombies in it. The "zombies" are not reanimated dead people, but live people who have a virus that turns them into zombie-like monsters. So it's ostensibly a "pandemic" movie, but it will likely have much more in common with The Walking Dead than with Steven Soderbergh's Contagion.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: "An unprecedented global pandemic has resulted in the evolution of a new species. An aggressive form of rabies turns the infected into predators, addicted to violence. An inexplicably gifted human survivor with the ability to speak their new language spearheads a hunt for Patient Zero in order to find a cure to save his infected wife and humanity."
From this synopsis, it seems that Dormer will play the "infected wife," although there have also been rumors that the "gifted survivor" role has been gender-swapped. In addition to playing Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones, she is also set to appear as rebel documentary filmmaker Cressida in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, parts 1 and 2.
