Star Wars Rebels Renewed For Second Season One Day Before Season One Premieres
Disney has a lot of faith in Star Wars Rebels. The studio has just announced that they have signed the new animated product to a second season, one day before the world premiere of the show has even aired. Disney executives are clearly happy with the work that creator Simon Kinberg and his team have done on the project, with Disney's Gary Marsh saying "The global expectations for this series could not have been any higher. And I am proud to say that the team at Lucasfilm has delivered something that has surpassed even that incredibly high bar – artistically and thematically."
Star Wars Rebels is set during the two decades that unfold between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope. The show will be the first on screen exploration of Disney's new Star Wars canon, and the team behind the show have teased a number of times that certain themes from the Rebels may pop up in JJ Abrams Star Wars: Episode VII.
Voice talent for the show includes Freddi Prinze Jr., Steve Blum and Vanessa Marshall. The show will eventually be released in 163 countries and 40 different languages, giving it one of the largest international launch audiences ever.
The one-hour world premiere of Star Wars Rebels airs on the Disney Channel on Friday 3rd October at 9pm ET/PT with a re-run airing the following Monday on Disney XD before the show finds it's regular season slot on October 13th.
