Fox Buys Film Rights for Soon-To-Be-Published Sci-Fi Book 'The Dark Side'
20th Century Fox has pre-empted the film rights to the sci-fi noir The Dark Side by Anthony O'Neill.
The book, which has been described as Avatar in the style of Philip K. Dick, takes place in a future in which the moon is used as a penal colony that houses the worst kinds of psychopaths, where tourists can come and watch the animals. When an anarchic android begins leaving a trail of bodies, an exiled detective comes to investigate.
The book received positive buzz from the Frankfurt Book Fair and was acquired by Simon and Shuster, to be published in spring 2015. Garrett Basch and Steve Zaillian, who co-wrote Ridley Scott's upcoming Exodus: Gods & Kings, are set to produce the film.
