Marvel's Planet Hulk Will Return in Summer 2015
Marvel continues its week of comics teasers with this image of a new Planet Hulk series starting in summer 2015:
Planet Hulk, which was released in 2006, followed Hulk as he was banished from Earth by the Illuminati to a violent, gladiatorial planet called Sakaar. He garnered followers from his abilities in the arena and took over the planet, only for his pregnant wife to be killed by the spaceship built by the Illuminati. This drives him to return to Earth with his followers and wage World War Hulk. The original comic was named Planet Hulk simply because Hulk became ruler of a planet, but in the teaser image, he seems to inhabit a literal planet of many Hulks, including a couple of female versions. He also appears to be fighting Devil Dinosaur, a T-Rex who lives in Dinosaur World, a parallel universe version of Earth in which dinosaurs and humanoids co-exist, as well as Captain America, for some reason.
The series was beloved by fans and critically acclaimed, but has never had a proper film adaptation. It was adapted into an animated film in 2010, but fans have been clamoring for a live-action adaptation since the Marvel Cinematic Universe became a thing. The internet exploded when news spread that the Sakaaran would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, but hopes that Guardians would lay the groundwork for a Planet Hulk movie were dashed when it was revealed to be an arbitrary decision based on rights issues. However, Marvel teased the return of Civil War right before news leaked that the storyline would be adapted in Captain America 3, so in light of this new comic series, maybe there's hope for Planet Hulk fans after all.
