Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Will Add New Members to the Team
Now that Guardians of the Galaxy is officially the third highest grossing movie of 2014, it comes as no surprise that director and co-screenwriter James Gunn is already hard at work on the script for the sequel. In fact, he started writing the sequel the day that the film came out, and he told Variety that all five of the beloved stars will be back, and that "fans may see the team adding new members."
It's early in the game, so he didn't provide any details on who these new members might be. But fan speculation is already running wild, with the most credible evidence pointing towards Adam Warlock, who James Gunn confirmed appeared in his cocoon in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Cosmo the Spacedog, who could be seen in the post-credits scene.
Disappointingly for many fans, Gunn also discredited rumors of a crossover with Star Wars: "Star Wars was a long time ago. It would have to be time travel." There could easily be time travel in the movie, of course, but he seems to be explaining that the universes of the franchises are very distinct.
And, just because he's mean, Gunn made this joke about the opening of the film: "It's going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes. In really horribly brutal fashion."
