The official trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron has leaked a week in advance of its release during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. From this early footage, the sequel will be much darker and more serious than its predecessor. Ultron is a legitimately terrifying villain, with his talk of the "beauty" of screams for mercy and his sinister accusation that people are "puppets." There will also clearly be a lot of infighting and conflict among the Avengers; or, more accurately, there will be a great deal of conflict between Iron Man and the other Avengers. Tony Stark admits to being at fault for creating Ultron, saying, "This is the end of the path I started us on." This conflict will not only follow the trend started by Captain America: The Winter Soldier and explore the ethical quandaries associated with technological advancement, but will set the stage for Iron Man to once again set the world on a morally questionable path in Captain America 3: Civil War.
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows: "When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans."
Shortly after the official teaser trailer was released, Marvel also released the first official Avengers: Age of Ultron poster.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1, 2015.
