First Full Trailer For Adi Shankar's Judge Dredd: Superfiend
We've already seen stills and a teaser trailer from Adi Shankar's unofficial Dredd spin-off, but now the first full trailer is here and it looks weirder than we had expected! As per Shankar's Punisher project, Superfiend is in no way linked to the 2012 Dredd movie, the rights to which are owned by Lionsgate. However, Judge Dredd: Superfiend differs from Shankar's previous work in that it is, in fact, animated and not live action as everyone initially thought.
In 2000 AD's comics, Judge Death was an alien superfiend who came to Mega-City One from another dimension where all life is a crime punishable by, you guessed it, death. However, Judge Death wasn't always an undead alien law enforcer. In the earlier years of his life, Judge Death was a young boy called Sidney, the son of a mad dentist who spent his time travelling across Deadworld inflicting excruciating pain on his 'patients'. This sadistic trait soon passed down to Sidney who eventually becomes a Judge just so he has an excuse to kill people legally. It is this origin story that Shankar hopes to tell with his new web series.
Shankar says Superfiend is his way of thanking the fans of his 2012 movie, Dredd, starring Karl Urban. Despite failing to impress at the box-office, Dredd was incredibly well received by fans and even had many critics nodding their approval. It's safe to say the Shankar's movie has now been elevated to cult status and fans are desperate to see a sequel put into production. Lionsgate, on the other hand, seem less than keen, which is understandable after the first movie failed to recoup its $50million production budget at the box office. However, strong home media sales have people convinced such a project would be viable and Karl Urban himself has expressed a keen interest in securing a green light for a sequel.
Judge Dredd: Superfiend debuts online on October 27th
