Benedict Cumberbatch Enters Negotiations to Play Doctor Strange
The media as a whole is becoming the boy who cried wolf when it comes to the casting of Doctor Strange, but this news seems to be more legitimate than the 22 other names that have been thrown out there. Deadline reports that Sherlock star and social media darling Benedict Cumberbatch has officially been chosen to play the superhero, and is currently entering negotiations.
We've been here before, when Joaquin Phoenix was officially chosen to play Vincent Stephen Strange, but negotiations ultimately fell through. Hopefully history won't repeat itself, because if this news became official it would probably break Tumblr.
Cumberbatch's performance as Sherlock Holmes on the BBC show has been highly acclaimed, earning him an Emmy and a Golden Globe nomination. He is also considered to be a frontrunner for an Oscar nomination for his performance as mathematician Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. Other high-profile names that have been linked to the part include Tom Hardy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew McConaughey, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
