Avengers vs X-Men Joining Marvel's Summer 2015 Comic Line-Up
We're nearing the end of Marvel's mysterious Summer 2015 comic teasers, and we've been warned that this latest tease could be one of the last. Today, Marvel announced that Avengers vs X-Men would be joining the Summer 2015 comics line-up, and they did it with style, releasing this brilliant cover art from Skottie Young.
Events in Avengers vs X-Men, namely Cyclops killing Professor Xavier, lead directly into the current run of Axis comics, but there are so many other elements to this tale than just that. A group of 5 mutants named The Phoenix 5 are the key to everything that unfolds in AvX. Possessed by the Phoenix Force, Cyclops, Colossus, Emma Frost, Namor, and Magik initially use their powers for good, building a safe haven for mutants and helping the inhabitants of Earth. When the Avengers begin to lose trust in the 5's ability to control their powers, war breaks out between the two groups with the Avengers barely staying alive throughout a series of scuffles.
It seems more than likely that these Summer 2015 teasers will all, in some way, feed into Marvels plans to revive the Secret Wars series in the Spring of next year. Secret Wars will be the climax of more than 2 years worth of storylines, but the original 1984 series has been dubbed merely as a "prototype" for this new series. Some are claiming that Secret Wars will usher in a complete reboot of Marvel's Universe and, although this hasn't been confirmed, it's clear for everyone to see that this is going to be one of the biggest events in the comic book giant's history. In fact, Marvel's Senior VP of Publishing, Tim Brevoort, has gone on record saying this is "the biggest thing" they've ever done.
Marvel's Avengers vs X-Men joins Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows, Future Imperfect, Age of Apocalypse, Old Man Logan, Infinity Gauntlet, Iron Man: Armor Wars, Planet Hulk, Age of Ultron vs Marvel Zombies, Civil War and much more in Marvel's Summer 2015 line-up.
