New Photo of Arrow's Felicity Smoak Leads to Death of the Endless Speculation
Arrow released an official photo of fan favorite Felicity from the anticipated origin story episode, "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak," which lead to a round of speculation that she might become a DC Comics character.
As a result of her "goth" appearance, fans began to wonder if she would ultimately become Death of the Endless, the personification of death from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. This might seem like a stretch, but Death does appear as an attractive, down-to-earth, and perky goth girl in the comics. The resemblance is remarkable enough that even those who don't think it's an actual clue are calling the picture an allusion to the character.

Although this would be an interesting twist, and would certainly make Sandman fans happy, it seems unlikely that Felicity is actually an anthropomorphic manifestation of Death. Arrow is quasi-realistic, as superhero shows go, and this is not only too fantasy but too heady and abstract for a mostly fun and uncomplicated show. There are also rumors that she will eventually become Oracle, as this was the original name of her origin episode. Oracle was an alterego of Barbara Gordon while she was bound to a wheelchair, so it doesn't seem to fit Felicity's character, but television changes comics canon all the time, so you never know.
Arrow's The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak airs tomorrow night at 9pm on the CW.
