Dominique Tipper Joins Thomas Jane in Syfy's The Expanse
Relative newcomer Dominique Tipper will join The Punisher's Thomas Jane in the upcoming Syfy series The Expanse. The series is based on the novel series of the same name, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.
The Expanse takes place in a distant future in which humans have fully colonized the Milky Way, setting up installments on Mars, the Moon, and the Asteroid Belt. Detective Miller, played by Jane, is tasked with finding a kidnapped heiress somewhere in the solar system, and uncovers a massive conspiracy in the process. Tipper will play Naomi Nagata, a spaceship engineer who is in a relationship with Miller's partner, James Holden (Sky High's Steven Strait).
The novel series, which includes Leviathan Wakes, Caliban's War, Abaddon's Gate and Cibola Burn, is critically acclaimed; the first book was nominated for a Hugo Award in 2011 and George R.R. Martin called it, "a kickass space opera." Oscar-winning screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, known for Children of Men and Iron Man, penned the pilot, and will serve as writers and showrunners during the first season, which will consist of ten hourlong episodes.
The cast of The Expanse also includes Oscar-nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay's Wes Chatham, and Breaking Bad's Jonathan Ray Banks. Syfy ordered a series commitment for the show and will air it sometime in 2015.
