Breaking Bad's Krysten Ritter to Star in Marvel's Jessica Jones
Breaking Bad and Veronica Mars alum Krysten Ritter will play the titular superhero in the Marvel/Netflix collaboration Jessica Jones, one of the four Marvel superhero series that will culminate in a Defenders miniseries.
The Jessica Jones series will be released after Daredevil, but before Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Each series introducing the four heroes will be thirteen episodes that will stream directly to Netflix. Several actors have been rumored for Iron Fist and Luke Cage, but no official decision has been made on either front. A casting shortlists for Jessica Jones was recently released that included Ritter, Teresa Palmer, Alexandra Daddario and Jessica De Gouw.
Jessica Jones is an unconventional comic book character who essentially serves as a critique of superheroes. Her origin story starts out like any other: she gained super-strength and invulnerability from a car crash that left her orphaned and exposed her to massive amounts of radiation. But then, after a couple of aborted attempts to become comfortable with being a masked superhero that lead to demoralizing experiences with heroes and villains alike, she becomes disillusioned with the whole concept and opens her own detective agency.
Jessica Jones, as well as the other Marvel/Netflix series, will begin airing in 2015.
