New Trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road Ups the Insanity Factor
"Everybody's gone out of their mind."
A new theatrical trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road is out, and it starts out incredibly bleak. Taking place in a world "without hope, without law, without mercy," Tom Hardy gives a long, soulful look into the distance while Charlize Theron proclaims, "Everything hurts out here." Then it abruptly switches gears and becomes a live-action comic book, with cars flipping over, a pale and hairless Nicholas Hoult cackling like a maniac, and explosions galore. The operatic score also helps to infuse a lot of ridiculousness into the proceedings, which I hope is consistent with the actual film.
The official synopsis reads: "Haunted by his turbulent past, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows."
Mad Max: Fury Road comes out in theaters on May 15.
