Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character Names Revealed
We saw some of the new characters to the beloved franchise in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer, but we didn't know any of their names. Until now, that is, as the studio has released the characters' names in an adorable throwback for fans of the original trilogy: Topps cards.
Topps cards were collectible cards that featured scenes and characters from the original films, and now there are eight new ones for the upcoming seventh film. Each card is labeled with the character's name, as well as a tantalizingly tiny blurb, as they didn't want to give too much away this far ahead of release.
"I'm only sorry we couldn't give everyone a stick of gum," said J.J. Abrams.
Here are the cards, which introduce us to characters played by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac, as well as that adorable new ball-shaped droid that's only been known as an R2D2 counterpart:
Daisy Ridley as Rey:
The mysterious figure wielding the crucifix lightsaber now has a name, but still no face:
Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron:
John Boyega as Finn:
And then some classics- Stormtroopers, X-Wings, and the Millennium Falcon:
Finn and Rey are relatively normal names, but Poe Dameron seems somewhat more telling. Poe might be a reference to Edgar Allan Poe, which would give his character a sinister edge, but either way, his name seems intimidating. Although it seems that he will be playing an anti-hero rather than a villain, as early rumors have stated that his character will be analogous to Han Solo.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out on December 18, 2015.
