Sci-Fi and Superhero Movies Dominate the Most Viewed Trailers of 2014
Goddammit, Fifty Shades. Aside from that abomination, sci-fi and superhero movies composed the top five most viewed trailers of the year. So close to a shut-out!
Fifty Shades of Grey was ultimately the most-viewed trailer, although it had a four-month head start, and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser came in second with the biggest opening, recording 58.2 million views in its first five days. The leaked Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer came in third, the early Jurassic World teaser came in fourth, and the TMNT trailer came in fifth.
Of the top twenty trailers, eleven of them were sci-fi, and an additional three were fantasy. The other sci-fi films to make the list were Interstellar at #10, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 1 at #11, (ugh) Transformers: Age of Extinction at #12, X-Men: Days of Future Past at #14, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes at #17, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt 1 teaser at #18, and Mad Max: Fury Road at #19.
